Hi Tweeters,

Being darn near the last birder standing on the westside of the state I must report the great shorebirds keep coming at the new Thomas Pond. I hope all the birders rushing to eastside get a chance to see our latest megararity. Actually I did run into two other birders who didn't head east and they told me about the Baird's.

All the sandpipers besides the Baird's included:

Semipalmated Plover (cute little bird popped out from behind a dirt clump
then I never saw it again)
Greater Yellowlegs-1
Semipalmated Sandpiper-1 at least, thank you Gene, I see it now
Wilson's Snipe-3
Western Sandpiper, several
Least Sandpiper, several
Killdeer, several

No phalarope, no Pectoral, and no Solitary either. A Canada Goose was in the back acting possibly sick, then later I realized why it was hanging around not looking very healthy, its likely mate was dead in the pond. It is pretty hard for me to not have this kind of thing tug at the heartstrings. They mate for life. I remember seeing one that stayed around it's dead mate that was hit by a car for several days.

To get there, take 272nd exit off of I-5 head east, turn right onto Frontage Road just past Hwy 167. The pond is a short ways down the road on the left.
