While poking around in the Fill, we saw to our surprise that there was a pied-billed grebe on still on a nest in one spot. Specifically, it was located South of the main pond at the end of the little trail that passes the 2 large granite boulders. I stood there watching the grebe sitting on the nest, and was surprised to see a chicks head pop out of mom's wings!

Mom got more nervous when my wife came to see, and she came off the nest followed by the chick. We had great views of both. Isn't that late in the year?

Also, there was a tiny unidentified peep at the North end of the main pond. Most likely a least sandpiper. The green heron was still hunting around the pond edge. A Bewick's wren was heard singing on the South end of the pond.

Those are the high lights.
