Hello birders from hot and dusty Walla Walla - MerryLynn posting -
A Calliope Hummingbird has been amazing me the last two days by displaying over our plum tree - and it doesn't matter if the other hummer in the tree is a Calliope or a Rufous. Still have one Black-chinned also - am enjoying them while they are still around!
At Bennington Lake this morning we had our first White-throated Sparrow and Townsend's Solitaire of the fall. Still had a Spotted and Baird's Sandpiper and one Greater Yellowlegs. Lots of Yellow-rumps and White-crowned Sparrows moving in. And juncos are everywhere.
Yesterday at Mt Hope Cemetery in College Place were 2 Golden-crowned Sparrows, 1 Fox Sparrow and an Olive-sided Flycatcher. Stone Creek/Walmart ponds had 3 Orange-crowned Warblers and 2 Common Yellowthroats. Lots of warblers and sparrows flying over the yard - just can't ID them all!
Mike has been out on a project by Whitman Mission - and there are lots of sparrows out there - White-crowned, Savannah, Vesper and Chipping moving through.
Will send another post of our weekend birding,
Later, ML
