Tweets,

I do not feed any wild birds or animals, ever. I usually bird with my
twelve-year-old son, and I think it is clearer for him that we have no
exceptions to this rule. It seems like such a contradiction that we do not
feed the ducks at Greenlake or Golden Gardens, or the gulls at Ivar's, but
then go ahead and feed the birds at Mt. Rainier. Also, how does it work that
we can feed Gray Jays, but not ground squirrels or chipmunks, and then what
about marmots or bears? It's a slippery slope. I am not saying consenting
adults shouldn't feed wild birds in private. But I do think we should take
the responsibility to set an example for folks (kids, tourists) who might
not know where to draw the line.
