Hi Tweeters,

Today, Tom Mansfield and I had an incredible day of birding as we found and photographed a NORTHERN HAWK OWL at Hart's Pass near the Meadows
Campground.

The bird was about 0.4 miles before reaching Meadows Campground. Once you see the sign for Meadows Campground, turn left and scan the entire burned area.

The handsome but somewhat unusually skittish bird (due to hunting activity) was seen twice during the two hours (4:25 PM and 6:15 PM) we birded at Hart's Pass. I think it will stay around. It was actively hunting, calling, and flying from perch to perch.

Within the next hour, we had one visual NORTHERN PYGMY OWL, AMERICAN THREE TOE, and one female SPRUCE GROUSE near the Meadows Campground.

Despite heavy fog and poor visibility , we also had 2 WHITE TAILED PTARMIGANS, one GRAY CROWNED ROSY FINCHES, 5 SOOTY GROUSE early this morning on Table Mountain at Mt. Baker.

Not a too shabby, day!!

Will write a full report later and GOOD LUCK on the hawkowl!!!
