Sherry and I attended the Capitol Forest birding trip with the Black Hills Audubon. We found the birding to be quite challenging during this time of the year. It quiet and slow for most of the day. We had our best birding in the morning at the back end of the off road vehicle parking lot at the Rock Candy entrance. There we had 75+ Band-tailed Pigeons, Purple Finches, 1 Pileated Woodpecker, and 2 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES. We ended the day with an American Dipper at Cedar Creek, and 34 species of birds overall in the forest.
Here are a few of the birds seen.

Red-tailed Hawk - 3
Turkey Vulture - 3
Cooper's Hawk - 1
