On our 6th attempt, About 1 P.M. Saturday Sept. 27, 08, we were rewarded
with views of Pectoral Sandpiper at the open mud, and possible future
wetlands, in King county, a location that borders Toy Smith, on its south
side. The Thomas Guide, map 715 Square 6-H. We had arrived 3 hours
earlier, while we were there we took a walking, side tour to Thomas
Wetlands, on the N.W. corner of Frontage Rd. & 44th St. N.W., The Thomas
Guide map 715 Square 7-H. Viewed from behind the road closing barrier, the
wetlands seemed undisturbed. We stayed away from construction equipment and
vehicles. A worker informed us that they were boring under highway 167 and
placing a 16" diameter pipe crossing under the roadway, without having to
dig up the freeway or the wetlands. This work is planned to be completed,
the equipment removed and the road reopened by mid-October.
