Three of us, Steve Caldwell, Brien Meillur and myself, also went up to Sunrise on Friday and Saturday hoping to find ptarmigan. We also missed them but Brien pointed out a very nice close look at half a dozen Pine Grosbeaks on the way down from Burroughs. Other birds we saw were a quick unsatisfying look at rosy finches and good looks at several raptors including a Golden Eagle, a Prairie Falcon, a couple of harriers and a couple of red-tails. Brien also spotted a couple of Sooty Grouse that we got very close looks at as well a road-killed bird with bright patches over the eyes.
