My wife and I took a walk at Golden Gardens Park and Shilshole Marina
yesterday afternoon, March 31 at about 4:00 pm. The tide was very low
and there were more than 200 BRANT feeding on the beach at the north
end of the park. Mixed in with them were AMERICAN WIGEONS. The ponds
also held Wigeons, MALLARD and GADWALL.
When we first walked up to the ponds, we saw a gentleman feeding a
male - and then a female RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD on his hand! On the
ground underneath, two GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS and a male MALLARD
picked up any dropped seeds.
Also seen around the ponds: RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLER, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH, AMERICAN ROBIN, HOUSE FINCH, SPOTTED
TOWHEE, AMERICAN CROW and SONG SPARROW. On the Puget Sound waters
there were RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, COMMON GOLDENEYE, BUFFLEHEAD,
RED-NECKED - and HORNED GREBES. In addition we saw GLAUCOUS-WINGED -
and MEW GULLS, CANADA GEESE and DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS on the
Shilshole jetty.
