Turkey vultures are heading north to their
nesting grounds. The ones we see either nest in
Washington or southern British Columbia, both
Vancouver Island, the islands in the Georgia
Strait, and the Sunshine Coast. Maybe even
further north! Following are reports from
Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia for March 2009:

Harbor heading north; one west of Port Angeles
12 ? 1 over Penn Cove; 1 at Millersylvania SP; 1
over West Olympia; 3 at Eastsound
13 ? 7 west of Sequim
14 ? 5 at Eastsound
15 ? 1 flying ahead of a snow front near Sequim;
1 soaring over Bainbridge; 3 soaring separately
over Portland, Oregon; 3 heading north over Seattle
16 ? 2 flying north over Wallace Swamp Creek Park, Kenmore
19 ? 1 looking for a thermal sw of Littlerock; 3 over Wenzel Slough Road
20 ? 1 flying west at west end of Wenzel SR; 1
heading north over Phinney Ridge; 3 over Nanaimo,
B.C.; 12 scattered individuals over central
Bainbridge Island moving north before an intense
rain squall; 2 after the rain squall
21 ? 1 soaring north of Burlington; several seen in the Skokomish Valley
22 ? 2 near Nanoose Bay, B.C.; one over Bainbridge Island
24 ? 1 over Beacon Rock SP; 2 in Stevenson; 3 at
Home Valley; 2 at Underwood; 7 at Catherine Creek
Preserve near Lyle; 1 north of Okanogan (a local
rancher reported 5); 1 over Bainbridge Island
25 ? 2 beautiful TVs over Sequim
26 ? 1 at Nisqually NWR; very heavy movements
reported in Oregon this week; 2 over Washougal; 1
over Steigerwald Lake NWR; 1 over the Sammamish
River trail, Woodinville; 1 over Bainbridge Island; 1 over Point no Point
27 ? 2 east of Montesano
28 ? 3 near the Tonasket-Havillah Road
29 ? 11 passing over Graysmarsh, Sequim; ? at
Parksville, B.C.; 1 south of Renton; 1 over
Duvall; 1 over Tokeland; 1 over Sedro Woolley
30 ? 1 over Renton; 1 soaring east of Enumclaw; 8
in a kettle heading north over Eglon; 1 over
Hansville; 1 east of Montesano; 1 at Sedro Woolley
31 ? 1 along Hwy.202
