Headed south from Aberdeen today to see what was around. Mostly the wrong
conditions for a successful trip but at least it wasn't rainy and/or windy
all day. With the tide heading out and a strong breeze there was little to
see at Bottle Beach, but it sure looks different than my last visit 17
months ago. Distant BB Plovers and Dunlin, and one flock of about 40 Brant
headed west. Westport was probably the best stop of the day with lots of
Surfbirds, Black Turnstones and Rock Sandpipers up close at the jetty past
the condos. Also all three scoters fairly close. There were 3 Evening
Grosbeaks crossing the highway north of Grayland. Midway Beach was
completely flooded. Tokeland was at low tide so the few birds present were
well out in the channel, although we did have 3 fly-by LB Curlews. Maybe
the best bird of the day was a male (can you differentiate a female?)
Eurasian Green-winged Teal at Mile 3.4 along Highway 105 west of Raymond.
