Hello Tweeters,
I birded only part way to Grays Harbor, since the tide was not in my
favor.High tide was at 8.00 AM.So I. birded this to Brady Loop Road.It
seems that I had a lot of birds but not in Species.I had a great time and
the weather was glorious.I took a little of road birding and started on
Highway 12,Blackhouse Rd. Dunlap Road ,and the Wetlands created and managed
by Fish and Wildlife.Blockhouse Rd North. This was part of our section for
the Satsop CBC.
Blockhouse Rd was well known for "THE HOTSPOT" for Sparrows. But now you
have to bird from the Road, since there is a locked Gate plus No Trespassing
Sign,But the birds where much visible,I counted 58 Golden-crown Sparrows
150 Robins and 30 White-crowned Sparrows,The dirt where there was feeding
was jet black, presumingly some manure, there was feeding vigorously, this was
a real show!!!,
Next I went to Dunlap Rd,I found another hotspot. The fields was way
flooded,it looked like a lake, here I found the only Swan of the day, a
juvenile Trumpeter Swan,11 Greater Yellowlegs,75 Canada Geese with 30
cackling Geese.30 N.Shoveler,,15 Pintails, 1 Pied-billed Grebe,18
Green-winged Teals,and few Dunlin,4.,there is also a bridge,the water level
was high,1 male Hooded Merganser ,3 coots and more Green-wing Teals,and 4
Common Goldeneye.
The Fish and Wildlife area was the best for the day,Patrick and I always
stopped there to find Shorebirds,it is between milepost 29&30 birds seeing
here 2 Turkey Vulture,2 Scrub Jay,3 Raven,2 Red-tailed Hawk,1 Hutton's
Vireo,19 Ring-necked Ducks,12 Green-winged Teals,6 females Common
Goldeneye,125 Am.Wigeon,male and female Wood Ducks, 4 Canada Geese,2
Snipes,1 Pied billed Grebes and 2 female Hooded Merganser.
Brady Loop Road did not produced to much:Foster Creek Rd The only 2
Buffleheads 6 Black -bellied Plovers ,22 Dunlin, More Green-winged Teals and
N Shoveler and N.Pintails,1 Marsh Hawk,1 Kestrel,Off Simmins Rd.More Am.
Wigeon with 1 EURASIAN WIGEON.
Late I stopped in Schouweiler where I found 6 N,Rough-winged Swallow and
many Tree Swallow ,2 Yellow-rumped Warblers and 1 Downy Woodpecker, summing
all up 51 species for the day.
