Driving on I5 south to Portland i saw a great egret in a pond on the side of
the road.
In Portland i unsuccessfully searched for the tufted duck.

Driving east along the Columbia River we stopped at Balch road. At the
cemetary, we saw white and red breasted nuthatches, western blue birds,
dark-eyed juncos, and American robins. Farther along the road we saw a
western scrub jay and lesser gold finches.

Our next stop was Toppenish NWR. on Pumphouse Road we saw, green winged
teal, California quail, loggerhead shrike,3 great horned owls, house
finches, Say's phobe, black billed magpie,killdeer, wilson's snipe,western
meadow lark, and red winged black bird. A walk to the refuge head quarters
produced white crowned sparrow, mourning dove, yellow rumped warbler, and
song sparrow. We walked on a trail that started at the head quarters and
found ducks and black necked stilts.

Fort Simcoe had plenty of Lewis's woodpeckers.

Durr road from Yakima to Ellensburg was unsucsessfull and we saw one
un-ID'd sparrow, red tailed hawk and a western blue bird.

Driving west on Highway 12 I saw Lewis's woodpecker and got my dad to go
back, finding the Oak Creek Wildlife Area head quarters by accident we
watched two Lewis's woodpeckers eating bugs and excavating a cavity. After
the woodpeckers made the cavity, a starling tried to steal a home and was
quickly evicted by the Lewis's woodpeckers. Farther west along Highway 12 we
saw a herd of big horned sheep

. Rimrock Lake was almost completely iced over but a pair of common
mergansers swam in a patch of open water close to shore.
