Tweeters,

Just got finished with a slow drive through Second Division Range Road at
Fort Lewis and then home to Roy. I was particularly looking for Chipping
Sparrows at Fort Lewis, but didn't find any (although I'm sure they're
there). When I arrived home, I was checking out the KILLDEER nest spot, and
found two CHIPPING SPARROWS and two SAVANNAH SPARROWS foraging near the
Killdeer nest.

Fort Lewis: LOTS of singing WHITE-CROWNED and SAVANNAH SPARROWS. Two nest
boxes along 2nd Div Range Road and one to the west of Nisqually Lake (I
think it's in Range 67) all had WESTERN BLUEBIRDS (pairs) at the boxes, and
defending against TREE SWALLOWS. I think the earlier-settling bluebirds have
the edge, at least that's what it looks like. PURPLE FINCHES, BLACK-CAPPED
CHICKADEES, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLERS, and AMERICAN ROBINS were noted singers scattered all along the
road.

At the intersection where the road turns east, I spotted two VARIED THRUSHES
on the north side of the road. Several COMMON RAVENS were active in the
impact area near Range 74.

May all your birds be identified,

Denis DeSilvis
