Tweeters,

I happened to look out front and saw the local terror of the Avian Acres
birds - an adult Cooper's Hawk - chowing down on what appeared to be a Pine
Siskin. After the Coop finished, it cleaned up a bit, then moved to a branch
that was not as exposed. (Then the phone rang.) After answering it, I went
back out front, and the Coop was in the middle of tearing apart another
small songbird - possibly a Dark-eyed Junco (I'll check the feathers
tomorrow). Anyway, the Coop snagged two small songbirds, and ate them,
within 15 minutes. And although a pretty good hunter, I've seen WAY more
misses by this Coop than hits, but that's what being a predator is all
about, I guess.

Note: The CHIPPING SPARROWS I saw earlier today moved out back, and those
weren't what the Coop got.

Another note: Both nearby RED-TAILED HAWK (RTHA) nests appear to have RTHA's
sitting on eggs.

May all your birds be identified,

Denis DeSilvis
