All I can say is that mistakes happen, but at least Messrs Hobbs, Bartels et al are out there doing it and that truth proceeds more easily from error than confusion. I remember birding with my ABA buddy, a much better birder than I, in a bamboo forest above San Blas,Nayarit. Hey, he says, look at that falcon on that branch. I quietly pointed out that the "falcon"was actually a Rose-throated Becard. We have since compromised in the Tropics and always keep an eye open for the rare Becard-Falcon! DH
