Brian Bell, Tina Kline-Lebbink and I walked the Lake Hills Greenbelt this morning to check out the area in preparation for the BirdNote Field Trip on April 26. See this link; http://www.birdnote.org/birdnote.cfm?id=1084

It was a good morning, some rain before and after but not during our walk. We started going to Phantom Lake -
Bufflehead ~30
Greater Scaup - ~10
Ring-necked Duck - 2
American Coot - 2
Violet-green Swallow - 20+ with a few perched on the deck railing
Barn and Tree Swallows - at least 2 of each
Canada Goose - 2 with 2 more later flying over us on the trail

The fields at SE 16th had 20-25 American Wigeon feeding. We were looking for the Killdeer usually seen there which we didn't see but found something even better - 5 American Pipit.

As we walked the trail from Phantom to Larsen Lake we saw:
White-crowned Sparrow - 1
Song Sparrow - 5
American Crow - 3+
American Robin - numerous
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - numerous, at least 7
House Finch
Black-capped and Chestnut-backed Chickadees
Spotted Towhee
Red-winged Blackbirds - a number at each lake
Yellow-rumped Warbler - both Myrtle's and Audubon
Rufous Hummingbird - 2
Anna's Hummingbird - 3
Northern Flicker - 3
Brown Creeper - 2
Band-tailed Pigeon - 1 flying over
Steller's Jay
Pine Siskin - heard
Red-tailed Hawk - one in cottonwood tree near Phantom L. and one on nest south of boardwalk west of 148th Ave.
Red-breasted Sapsucker - 2 excavating a new hole along boardwalk which is appropriate as it illustrates the web link above.
Wilson's Snipe - one flew up from wetland on west side of 148th Ave.
Wood Duck - 2 male and 1 female in outlet, Kelsey Creek, from Larsen L.

A good morning that netted 34 species.
