Hi Tweeters,

About 90% of my travel is for business which means I bring along a complete
suite of optics samples. I always pack the higher priced goodies in my
carry-on bag (for both domestic and international travel). These include
three scopes, five binoculars, and several camera bodies. The most reaction
I'm ever gotten from TSA personnel are lifted eyebrows and, every once in a
while, a request to hand check everything which has never resulted in any
problems. All the optics are in separate padded cases for added
protection. I guess the name of the game is to try not to hide it from TSA
people - the more hidden it is, the more likely it will raise suspicion. I
always check the tripod and tripod head as I encountered an incident in San
Jose, CA years ago when TSA told me that I had to check it since it could be
used as a weapon (wow).
