Yesterday April 19 we had several first-of-the year birds. Highlights were a HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER, an immaculate ad. male BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER, and 3 BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS. The warbler looked odd moving about in bare alder branches, only barely beginning to leaf out--don't think I've ever seen an arrival in those conditions before. We also had Wood Duck, Calif Quail and Ruffed Grouse over the weekend, none of those common here.
