It was one of those glorious Northwest days - any sightings or photographs
is a bonus to being outside. Dan Streiffert and I spent the day around
Blaine (the harbor and Semiahmoo). The surprise was so few birds. The
Boundary Bay side of the Semiahmoo Spit was totally bare and I don't think
I've ever seen that before.



We did get to see Grebes in breeding plumage - Eared, Horned, and
Red-necked. Even got lucky enough to photograph them (3 photos of the
different grebes starting here:

A Mute Swan was also swimming in the marina

In Semiahmoo, it was pretty quiet, but we got to observe the Common Loons.
Watched one Loon eat an unidentified organism (meaning - I don't know what
it is). Got lucky enough to catch the sequence. Here are two from the

And the Tulips appear to be in full bloom. With the afternoon sun on them,
they were spectacular.



It's days like this that remind me how great is it to be mostly freed (ok,
entirely freed) from the necessity of working for a living!
