Hi Tweets,

The Seattle Audubon staff enjoyed a Birdathon in local areas in King County, starting at 6:15 am at Marymoor Park, then continuing to Juanita Bay Park, Logboom Park in Kenmore, Carkeek Park, Discovery Park, the Arboretum and wrapping up at Union Bay Natural Area at 6pm. I ended up with 96 species for the day.

Highlights included an AMERICAN KESTREL, a fly-by female RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, a calling RED CROSSBILL and singing PURPLE FINCHES at Marymoor. A single Slate-colored FOX SPARROW and multiple LINCOLN'S SPARROWS were at Juanita Bay and Logboom Park in Kenmore provided a CALIFORNIA GULL and PURPLE MARTIN. BRANT lined the beach at Carkeek Park with at least two BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS and CASSIN'S and HUTTONS VIREOS (singing in the same tree) found in the forests. Discovery Park provided a singing NASHVILLE WARBLER at the parking lot and, down at West Point, we were treated to three pairs of MARBLED MURRELETS, numerous RHINOCEROS AUKLETS in breeding plumage, 4 DUNLIN in breeding plumage and sparse BONAPARTE'S GULLS. Union Bay Natural Area immediately provided a WESTERN KINGBIRD on the cyclone fence near the greenhouse, 2 WESTERN and 4 LEAST SANDPIPERS at the Shoveler Pond and a fly-by AMERICAN PIPIT. As I left at 6pm, I saw at least two WESTERN KINGBIRDS.
