Tweets,
Ridgefield "S" unit driving loop produced some interesting birds on Friday
afternoon. Highlights:
- Several White-fronted Geese, six feeding in the lake, some resting on the
shore near the blind
- A very pale Cackling Goose-type, a pale sandy-gray-brown at least a shade
(more like 2) paler than the palest Cackler and about 3-4 shades paler than
most. Really stood out. No neck ring noted. This bird was with a host of
Cackling Geese out on the inner side of the dike that runs straight ahead as
you head-in park at the blind.
- Lincoln's Sparrow- near blind
- Solitary Sandpiper- in shallow pool just around the corner from the blind
- Redhead- drake in the narrow pond between Rest Lake and the kiosk, along
with a surprising number of other ducks that included Ruddy Duck drake in
breeding plumage and possible Common Goldeneye
- Vaux's Swifts in town
- Egret (assumedly Great) in the "swan pond" just north of Kalama before the
river bridge northbound.
- "Misses" - White-breasted Nuthatch, Lesser Yellowlegs, Yellow-headed
Blackbird
The Ridgefield police department did not know the bridge was open before
Monday, but I happened to see some cars down there from up above. Pretty
much had the place to myself--which will change. Unfortunately I didn't have
time to linger. The self-pay station is very convenient. Good birding!
