Hi Burt and Tweeters,

I had a similar experience with a Steller's Jay. I heard a great commotion under the apple tree and when I went to investigate I found a Steller's nestling on the ground. I ran to the house to get my camera and by the time I got back the youngster had somehow made its way to the tree trunk and then hitched himself up to a branch that was about 5 feet off the ground. After taking a few pictures I left because I was causing the parents such distress. I can only assume that the little one worked himself all the way back to the nest.
