Subject: [Tweeters] Kent Black-necked Stilt, YES, New Location

Hi Tweeters,

Location was the new mitigation pond at the base of the hill where Orillia turns into 212th. South side of 212th, there is a short paved dead end ramp up to the pond (on the right if you are driving down from Orillia). The stilt was sleeping on the rip rap. I walked around the pond and 2 Canada Geese objected very loudly to my presence, they could have woken the dead. So by the time I got around to other side and closer to the stilt it had woken up and was foraging. Nice male.

I could hear something calling that I couldn't place and found it just east of the pond, a Western Kingbird flycatching off of a "planted" snag.

I thought I had already had quite a nice day in Kent but what a topper! The only other thing I saw that hasn't been reported for Kent on Tweeters lately was a flock of 11 Greater White-fronted Geese, on the 204th side of the fields.
