The last two weeks there has been lots of migratory movement past Point
Wilson of raptors, with as many as 14 Red-tailed Hawks traveling northeast
in one day. The turkey Vulture numbers were as high as 18 birds when a SW
wind was blowing about 10mph one day. The loons have left the area around
Point Wilson. The last to leave was a Common loon on 4-23, the last time I
saw the Yellow-billed loon was on 4-16. I did get to see one Pacific Loon in
its alternate plumage on 4-14. For the last four days there has been a Taiga
female or juvenile Merlin appear flying low (3 feet above the ground) near
me as close as 20 feet on several days. This Merlin has a schedule it
appears between 1520~1540 flying by my location moving to the NNE across
Admiralty Inlet towards Whidbey Island. One image of the Merlin can be seen
on my flickr site. A Minke Whale has been feeding in Admiralty Inlet for the
last week on most days. A Gray Whale was in the little bay between Point
Wilson and Point Hudson 5 days ago.
