Subject: [Tweeters] Cardinal Rule

I can only imagine that tweeterland is a twitter at Sherry Hagen?s report
today that a Northern Cardinal has been sighted (fide BG) at a feeder near
Vancouver Lake. If anointed by the WBRC, this record would be Washington?s
first. I had thought there was one previous record but I was wrong. A search
of WOSNews brought forth the following citations (fide BG) -- the
underlinings are mine:

*Issue No. 101; Feb. 2006*

?Northern cardinal: *Introduced species*: 1 fem. at Gig Harbor Pierce on 5/8
and 5/9 (fide BWg).?

*Issue No. 51; Oct. 1997*

?Northern cardinal: *Almost certainly an escapee*, an ad male was reported
at a feeder In Lewiston, ID on 1/5 and was last seen there on 4/14. Perhaps
the same bird was reported across the Snake River in Clarkston Asotin on
4/14. It was also reported at different locations in Clarkston on 5/15 and
on 5/23 (fide MK).?

*Issue No. 37; **June 1995*

?Northern cardinal: 1 from reported from Vancouver, CK, in Feb., *is
undoubtedly an escapee* (fide HN).?

And then there is this piece from my term or turn as WOSNews editor:

* *

*Issue No. 4; Dec. 1989*

?A few years ago the Arlington (Wash.) Eagles football team met the
Franklin-Pierce cardinals in the state championship finals. As editor of the
local Arlington newspaper, I felt obliged to editorialize on the issue of
appropriate mascots. I emphatically stated that since cardinals do not
reside in Washington, I could only deduce that the Pierce County team also
did not exist. Therefore, the game was automatically forfeited??

Naturally, no one bought by suggestion. Regardless, the Eagles won and,
naturally, I was vindicated, although no one mentioned it. So it goes, and
so I go south?
