MerryLynn and I went out to the west end today despite the heat and found
quite a few shorebirds -
Millet field on Northshore Dr:, Wallula HMU, Walla Walla Co., WA
Semipalmated Plover-2 birds
Killdeer-75 birds
Greater Yellowlegs-14 birds
Lesser Yellowlegs-31 birds-near record number for WW Co. at a single
location.
Solitary Sandpiper - 5 birds
Spotted Sandpiper-8 birds
Western Sandpiper-6 birds
Least Sandpiper-4 birds
Baird's Sandpiper - 2 birds
Long-billed Dowitcher-8 birds
Wilson's Snipe - 10 birds
Red-necked Phalarope - 8 birds

Also:
Blue-winged Teal-1
Cinnamon Teal-16 birds
Green-winged Teal-16 birds
Lesser Scaup-1-odd location for a diver. Water only 3-10 inches deep
Hooded Merganser - 4 young birds, first indicator of breeding in Walla Walla
Co.. These are the first young we have ever seen in this region.

Great Blue Heron-3
Great Egret-4
Black-crowned Night-Heron-11
Caspian Tern-12
Eurasian Collared-Dove - 4 birds
Great Horned Owl - 2 adults
Black-chinned Hummingbird - 1 female
Eastern Kingbird-2
Black-headed Grosbeak - 1 singing
House Wren-1
Western Wood-Pewee-1

Other interesting organisims seen: 4 Great Basin Spade-foot Toads, 2 species
of underwing moths and many dragonflies.

The temp was reaching 95 degrees by 11AM and shot over 105 by 1PM. Summer!
