Monday, August 3, marks the launch of a new birding list called
Tweeters-Alerts: tweeters-alerts at u.washington.edu. As its name
suggests, the new list is a spinoff of the Tweeters list. We expect
that most members will want to subscribe to both lists. Subscriptions
are open to all, effective at once.

The Tweeters list will remain as it always has been -- a general chat
list on birds and birding, unmoderated and with liberal content
guidelines.

Tweeters-Alerts is a moderated list that carves out a dedicated space
for recent reports of noteworthy bird sightings in Washington.
Membership is composed of active birders and others who want to keep
up with the latest field bulletins and discoveries. The criteria for
an appropriate posting are three: timeliness, brevity, and
significance of the sighting (worthy of a place in the permanent
ornithological record). In many cases, the subject birds are ones that
avid birders may want to make an effort to go find for themselves.

Posting Guidelines, subscription information, and other details are
available on the Tweeters Birding Email Lists website :

http://www.scn.org/tweeters

The website has been completely updated. To be sure you are seeing the
current version you may want to clear your browser's cache, or refresh
each page the first time you open it.

Be sure to read the new list's Posting Guidelines carefully. The About
page and the FAQ page address common questions and provide good
contextual information, such as the relationship between the two lists.

If you have additional questions or comments, or encounter
difficulties, you may reach us by email :

Guidelines can go only so far. It is the users who set the tone, and
establish the culture, of any online forum. Tweeters-Alerts is your
list. Sign up, put it in play, and enjoy.

Good birding!
