Tweets,

Today 19 of us walked Nisqually under cool, cloudy conditions. It was a
pleasant respite from the recent heat...and the birds seemed to appreciate it
also.

Bast bird of the day was a GREEN HERON, the first sighting of the year for
me. We also got looks at several AMERICAN BITTERN, mostly fleeting
glimces, but we did see one standing behind the visitor center as we finished the
walk.

Swallow numbers are down but we did see BARN, CLIFF, TREE, and
VIOLET-GREENS today. There was 2 KILLDEER out behind the twin barns and several
juvenile SWAINSON'S THRUSH about.

We had a couple of RED-TAILED HAWKS and NORTHERN HARRIERS, the first we've
seen in a long time and several BALD EAGLES, mostly juveniles out toward
the sound. We also had a TURKEY VULTURE flyby.

There were lots of CEDAR WAXWINGS about and we saw both YELLOW and WILSON'S
WARBLERS. WESTERN WOOD PEEWEES were very vocal and we observed a WILLOW
FLYCATCHER nest with parents bring food.

All told we saw 40 species for the day with the GREEN HERON being new for
the year.

The only mammal seen (besides people) was a BLACK-TAILED DEER doe.

Until next week....
