MessageRachel,

The Acorn Woodpecker viewing at Lyle will be very disappointing to your friend. 99.9% of the time they are seen only at great distances if at all. Just a pin prick at 60X while standing at the edge of a shoulderless rural road looking south into the sun.

Take your friend to Forest Grove, Oregon, just west of Portland and just walk around on the campus of Pacific University. They are present year round and seen at close range.

I have a Birdingpal coming from England around August 22 who really, really loves woodpeckers. Is it still possible to see Acorn Woodpeckers in the Lyle area, and, if so, whereabouts?

If you don't know about Birdingpals, visit the website: http://www.birdingpal.org/
