Just returned from a fun 10 days in Arizona - got to miss the Seattle heat, but did get to experience the monsoon heat of 116F / 22% humidity that Arizona offers in the summer time.
Saw some fun wildlife and birds while down there, but need some help from anyone familiar with Southern Arizona birds & monsoon migrants. I think I figured out what one is... Vermilion Flycatcher Male & and possibly a Female, but would love some help 1.) confirming/denying those and 2.) ID'ing the other birds spotted.
Here's a link to my Bird ID help set in Flickr:http://flickr.com/gp/backyardbirderwa/11989L

I was in Casa Grande for most of the trip, so had the chance to see a myriad of Turkey Vultures circling the skies, Ravens, Magpies, Mourning Doves nesting in every crevice and Saguaro available, Great Tailed Grackles and even some desert versions of the House Sparrows. I think I spotted some Gambels' Quail running at sunset a few nights in a neighboring plowed field, but since it is snake season there, didn't want to risk stepping in the wrong spot while alone to verify which quail! And yes, one lone Killdeer running along the top of the dry canal with a roadrunner or two zipping by as well.
One night, I stumbled upon a family of 3 Great horned Owls waiting for more bunnies to come out just before sunset in two adjacent trees. A wondrous sight to behold! (I'm still uploading pix) Two nights later, one of the same trees had what I am assuming was a Red Tailed Hawk (until someone tells me otherwise! ;) ), panting to cool off from the 115F heat, just before sunset.
I must say I was rather surprised at all the birds I was able to spot in my limited outdoor ventures or from a quickly moving car window!
