Sherry and I hiked the Lily Basin Trail today just south of Packwood. We started in the clouds and remained in the clouds until around 3:00pm. By then we had already turned around. The clouds never really lifted all the way for the spectacular views, but we did get to see Packwood Lake. The wildflowers were good, but about 2 weeks earlier would have been the best. We had one good group of birds on our way back down. It consisted of 1 Townsend's Warbler, 1 Yellow-rupmed Warbler, lots of Chestnut-backed Chickadee's, 2 Mountain
Chickadee's, lots of Red-breasted Nuthatches, and lots of Dark-eyed Junco's.
