Hey Tweeterland,
This past weekend I had to go to Sisters, Oregon for family business. I decided to take advantage of the fact that the area has 11 breeding species of Woodpeckers. While Washington has the same species I do not believe they are in the same numbers or in such a concentrated area. They have had many recent forest fires and have easily accessable areas for Black-backed and Three-toed Woodpeckers. They have a Woodpecker Festival in early june which would be worth checking out.

Anyway, on saturday, in a relatively small area of the GW burn, I saw the following woodpeckers:
33 Black-backed Woodpeckers
1 Three-toed Woodpecker
3 White-headed Woodpeckers
14 Hairy Woodpeckers
2 Red-breasted Sapsuckers
5 Northern Flickers

On sunday, at a non-burned location, I found a Downy Woodpecker, 3 more White-headed, and several Red-naped sapsuckers. At the same location I followed the sound of a juvenile Northern Goshawk until I found it perched about 20 feet up in a Ponderosa Pine.

The area appears a bit under-birded in my research, but maybe Khahn Trahn or some other Oregon birders have a different opinion. If anybody is interested in more about this area, you should check out the following websites;
