Thanks for letting us know about the purchase of Getty's Cove. This is a
well-known birding hotspot to me and to many others who bird the Vantage
area regularly. Although one can currently do some birding at Getty's Cove
from Huntzinger Road itself, it will be much easier (especially for
landbirds) if there is public access to the formerly private RV park area.

For those who may be interested, the photos of a Mink on the front page of

Getty's Cove in early May this year. (Scroll down to the bottom of the
page.)

I hope the moderator will forgive this non-bird post. It was announced in
the Columbia Basin Herald today that Grant County PUD has purchased the
Getty's Cove Campground and the surrounding 96.5 acres on Huntzinger Road.
It is unclear when the property will actually change hands, but it will
offer birders another area to bird that is public property and hopefully
will be available by the peak of migration over Labor Day Weekend.
