Hello All,

Well MerryLynn and I headed west to bird the southwest coast from Illwaco
north to Ocean Shores. Birds and numbers of note........

14 Aug. North Head Light

Pomerine Jaeger......1 ad. light morph
Brown Pelican.........500+
Whimbrel.................10 birds
Sooty Shearwaters...1200 birds

Klipsan Beach

Common Murre.........1600+ birds
Parasitic Jaeger...........6 birds
Caspian Tern..............975 birds
Brown Pelican............600+
Heermanns Gull..........220+
Pomerine Jaeger.........1 ad.
Sooty Shearwaters......1000+
Western Sandpiper......500+
Semipalmated Sandpiper...1

Long Beach
Eurasian Collard Dove...18 birds, north, beside our Motel ( The Cedars)
Brown Pelican..............2200+
Common Murre............700+
Sooty Shearwater.........450,000+, we estimated 1000 birds passing a
min.headed south into a massive black cloud that filled a third of the
southern horizon. We have video and photos of this massive feeding flock.
There was a multi-millions of anchovey just off shore.These shearwaters
passed just beyond the breakers in front of us.

Red-necked Phalarope..6 birds

Palix River meadows

Dusky Canada Geese........38 birds with several neck banded with white
collars and black lettering, they were as follows, reading from base up
neck, CX94, 24XK, 02XJ, 96XJ, 61XK,85XJ.



Midway Beach

Snowy Plover with three 2-3 day old chicks.
Heermanns Gulls............400+
California Gulls..............820+
Sooty Shearwaters........50,000+
Pomerine Jaeger............1 ad.
Caspian Terns................110 birds

Tokeland-16 August

Marbled Godwits...........300 birds
Willet..............................6 birds
Long-billed Curlew..........1 bird, odd to have at this site in August
Whimbrel.........................4 birds
Glaucous x Glaucous-winged Hybrid.Gull....took photos

Bottle Beach

Black-bellied Plover........200
Semipalmated Plover.......31

Game Range/Tonquin

Peregrine Falcon..............2 birds
KING EIDER..................1 AD.FEMALE, watched for 2.75 hours.


17 August

Ocean Shores

Eurasian Collard Dove......3 birds near Ikt St. & Moxt St.
Sharp-tailed Sandpipers....2 bright birds
Pectoral Sandpiper...........3 birds
Bairds Sandpiper..............2 birds
Lesser Yellowlegs.............7 birds
Greater Yellowlegs............11 birds

Well that is it. Great weather and ran into Mike , Igor and Hank enjoyed
birding with them.

One note: Near the North Jetty of the Columbia River there was a group of
100+ Barn Swallows all feeding on the upper beach on amphipods ( sand fleas/
sand hoppers ).
