Subject: [Tweeters] Update on Green Lake pied-billed grebe nest

Hello Tweeters,

Well, it looks like hatching hasn't actually quite begun yet. I was at Green
Lake this morning and all five eggs were still in the nest intact
(www.flickr.com/photos/trileigh/3846449026/).

Now I'm worried that the heat of the last few weeks has addled the eggs,
especially since I saw a grebe "panting" on the nest a few days ago, a sign
of heat stress. (Thanks to several Tweeters for the interpretation of this
observation.) I wonder how long the adults will keep sitting on eggs that
are doomed to failure?

Good birding to all,
Trileigh
