Subject: [Tweeters] Juanita Red-naped Sapsucker, Franklins Gull

The sapsucker refused to perform on cue for me today, but I was distinctly
short on time and really only spent 15 minutes checking out its favoured
birch. I did not check the fire station, or indeed most of the park.

The Franklin's gull was rather more cooperative, standing alone bang in the
middle of Juanita beach at 2pm. I don't know how people-acclimated this gull
was before it arrived, but a summer week at Juanita among the hordes of
shrieking kids has clearly adjusted it to anything. The bird showed no
concern as I sidled up to about 12 feet from it, and settled down in the
sand and went to sleep as I photographed it.

Thank you for all the ongoing reports everyone.

Hi Tweeters,

Yesterday did not see the Sapsucker but did see two candidates in flight but
unable to id either one. I think a pair of Warbling Vireo's are tending to
a Brown-headed Cowbird chick off the road/boardwalk. I could never see the
actual feeding though. Bewick's Wren also seen near the chick. How one
chick can sound like a nestfull is beyond me.

The Franklin's Gull at Juanita Beach Park was there and super easy get close
due to this birds association with the gull flock. Really nice looks. It
likes to be fed along with the other gulls by the way....bring chum if you
got it.
