I did not bird early this morning as high tides have had the Marsh
flooded, leaving little mud for shorebirds. At 11 a.m. there was
plenty of exposed mud but WESTERN SANDPIPERS were the only migrants
visible. Other Marsh denizens were Marsh Wren, Song Sparrow, Violet-
green and Barn Swallows, Great Blue Heron, Crow, Glaucous-winged
Gull, and Starling.

At the public pier there were Glaucous-winged and Heermann's Gulls,
one BONAPARTE'S GULL in basic plumage between the ferry dock and the
pier, and a good number of Pigeon Guillemots.

At the Willow Creek Hatchery and Point Edwards public path there were
Robin, Song Sparrow, Northern Flicker, American Goldfinch, and one
COOPER'S HAWK. The Coop lifted out of the grass near the cattails at
the fenced retention pond at the end of the path. It perched on the
fence for a nice series of photos. About 35 Mallards were at rest on
the large Marsh pond that can only be viewed from Point Edwards.
Hard to tell if it was the time of day or the Coop that kept things
quiet at that site.

Good birding,
