Tweets,

Thanks to Jamie for posting our Hudsonian, which later (at high tide) joined
a second HUDSONIAN GODWIT in a flock of Short-billed Dowitchers (all
juveniles, including the godwits) just south of the weird radar thingie at
the Tonkin Rd. entrance to the Game Range at Ocean Shores. We also saw three
scattered BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS on the sandy margin of the lagoon
accessible from Tonkin Rd. but by walking east then south then west around
to the spit between the channel and the lagoon. Several BAIRD'S, thousands
of WESTERNS, and just one or two PECTORAL SANDPIPERS also in evidence. Did
not see the Ruff but heard that it had been seen earlier Saturday. We didn't
look hard enough for the eider so it might still be around.

Later on Saturday we drove around and down to Tokeland where we counted more
or less 780 MARBLED GODWITS feeding just south of the Oyster Pier on the
falling tide with a single LONG-BILLED CURLEW. Five WILLETS were nearby
under the rotting pier just to the west while there were eight WHIMBRELS on
the breakwater across the marina. Thousands and thousands of gulls gathered
at the high tide mark on Midway Beach at sunset feasting on a die-off of
anchovies.

Today's pelagic was not too rough, in fact mostly very pleasant after the
wind died. We ended up off Pacific County for part of the trip. Nearly 300
BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSSES (no Laysan's), lots of Pink-footed Shearwaters and
Northern Fulmars (including several nearly all white guys), a handful of
BULLER'S SHEARWATERS, several SOUTH POLAR SKUAS, including one close fly-by,
a fine close comparison of adult PARASITIC and LONG-TAILED JAEGERS circling
the boat, fair numbers of SABINE'S GULLS, two TUFTED PUFFINS, several
humpback whales, close views of blue sharks harassing albatrosses and
fulmars, and no doubt other stuff I've forgotten. For details check the
Westport Seabirds website.

George Gerdts and Gene Hunn report a HUDSONIAN GODWIT at the game range
behind the STP at 3 PM this afternoon. They are birding the coast prior to
tomorrow's pelagic trip.
