today's mystery bird, a youngster fresh from the nest, is a North American species so it shouldn't be too difficult for you to identify, but it's a cutie nonetheless;

the most recently demystified mystery bird was a Black Tern, Chlidonias niger, courtesy of Joseph Kennedy. This bird generated a lot of very interesting discussion that you should read (comments) and the photographer also made a very educational "decoder" image that you should look at.
