hi tweeters- we just returned from our august shorebird search at the
ocean beaches- we saw 21 spp.- thank you ruth sullivan for showing us the
hudsonian godwit at the game range on sun ,aug,24-- we spent? a lot of
time around midway , incl talking w/ a wonderful gal from wdfw who
researches snowy plovers- she tells me that every time the s.plovers are
on tweeters,there is almost " wildlife harassment '' by those wanting
good photos...- that said, near the n. end of the plover marked area ,
near to the baech access from grayland state park -about 1 mile n. of
midway , we saw 8 snowy plovers + a gorgeous pair of juv?-buff-breasted
sandpipers- in the morning - we went back in late afternoon to find 12
snowy plovers + the 2 buffs in the rubble near to sunbathers on the
beach!--just s. of there we saw a dead sunfish/mola mola weighing about
150lbs.--we met someone from calgary who saw 2 live sunfish?on the
pelagic trip sunday-----the ponds by midway are dried up but i saw 1
baird's sandpiper, 1 semipalm plover + some least sandpiper- i took some
pics of the buffs , but i don't know how to post them on
tweeters-sorry---we saw the huge flock of marbled godwits at tokeland+ 9
willets--no bar-tailed sighted-- surprisingly- we saw no whimbrels or
long-billed curlews, despite 3 trips at different tides at tokeland-there
are incredible hordes of gulls on the beaches, esp. heermann's
gulls--it's a fun way to spend a few days for beach + bird lovers!
