Tweets,

Today was a great day at Nisqually. The weather was clean and cool and
the birds cooperated. There were 19 of us at the start, we grew to 21 part
way trough, and we lost a couple toward the end.

Construction continues, we had high tide on the Nisqually with tribal
members pulling nets, and the fields have been hayed providing better
visibility...for us and the raptors.

Highlights included great birds at the visitor center.. CASSIN'S VIREO,
WARBLING VIREO, HAIRY WOODPECKER, DOWNEY WOODPECKER, WOOD DUCK, NORTHERN
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, YELLOW WARBLER to name a few. We had 4 swallows and 3
woodpeckers there as well as CEDAR WAXWINGS and MALLARDS.

On the pond on the way to the twin barns we all had great looks at an
AMERICAN BITTERN. Into the riparian area we hit a great mixed flock that
included BROWN CREEPER, WILSON'S WARBLER, and BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER among
other.

Not much to be seen except construction from the twin barns overlook but we
did see RED-TAILED HAWKS, BALD EAGLE, and NORTHERN HARRIERS. We did have
a fly by of 2 WHIMBREL that headed out to McAllister Creek and then headed
out to the sound.

At the Nisqually River overlook we saw BELTED KINGFISHERS and GLOUCOUS
WINGED GULLS.

All to told we saw 51 species for the day with CASSIN'S VIREO,
BLACK-THROATED GRAY, an OSPREY flyby, and WHIMBREL being new for the year. We now
have 142 species for the year.

Mammals seen included EASTERN GRAY SQUIRREL and RACCOON.

Until next week....
