Hello Tweets,

Just one baby left in the Green Lake pied-billed grebe family, unfortunately
-- I had high hopes that this time they'd be more successful. Assuming the
young grebe from the previous clutch has continued to thrive, though, at
least they've managed a replacement generation this year.

I was surprised to see both parents looking like they're constructing
another nest; they both repeatedly brought new stems and other vegetation to
an area at the edge of the lily-pad field, as the chick looked on. I didn't
see a platform or other evidence that they'd been doing this before today.
Or maybe it's just an early lesson for the baby?
