Today is a great day for Hooded Mergansers on Fawn Lake in Mason
County, with 40 visible on our section of the small lake, and the
males actively engaged in courtship behavior in the bright sunshine.
This is an all-time high in our 20 years of observing this lake. I
guess it is possible that our provision of three Wood Duck/Hooded
Merganser nest boxes has dramatically increased the local population,
but I'm not sure enough about their local flight patterns to be certain.
