Subject: [Tweeters] South Bend Gyrfalcon

Yesterday (Sunday, 12/6) at about 12:30 I stopped at Carruthers Slough on
101 south of South Bend to scope the 100s of Canada and Cackling Geese in
the pasture there. After a few minutes a brown Gyrfalcon showed up to harass
the geese and flushed different groups of geese as it worked the field. This
went on for a couple of minutes when a Peregrine appeared to watch the
action. After a couple more minutes the Gyrfalcon landed in the field. The
Peregrine dove on it a couple of times and then left the area. I left after
several more minutes with the Gyr still in the field. It was all the way
across the pasture from the road. Although I viewed it with the scope I'm
not sure whether it was an immature gray morph or a dark morph.

As well as the white-cheeked geese there were 35 Greater White-fronts and a
dozen Snow Geese.

Today I stopped at the same spot at about 10:30 am. There were fewer geese
and I could not find the Gyr.
