Yesterday I saw a small marsh bird?along Willow Creek?below the fish hatchery in Edmonds.? I have been told there are green herons and Virginia rails in that area, so it could have been one of them.? The encounter was too sudden for me to get a photo and the ones in my bird books were inconclusive.?? The cold weather has frozen the ground and made it easier to hike down Willow Creek to the edge of the marsh. ??

I did get some good photos of the local juvenile red tailed hawk which hangs out at the fish hatchery,?a juvenile bald eagle at the end of Sunset Ave., and a hooded merganser at Scriber Lake in Lynnwood.? ?The lake has frozen over, but the outlet stream is still flowing, which is where I saw the hooded merganser and some mallards. ??

I felt I had to make good use of the bright sunlight in the clear, cold weather?to take photos before it warms up and the usual gloomy weather returns.
