Tweets,

Today 9 of us enjoyed a chilly walk at Nisqually. OK, it was down right
cold!! Not much open water on the refuge. Good thing the tide was incoming
so we had some moving water for the ducks to land on.

While it seemed slow we had a pretty good day. Highlights included
WESTERN MEADOWLARKS and GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE. We also did manage to see
an AMERICAN KESTRAL and a NORTHERN SHRIKE out along the new dike.

The WESTERN MEADOWLARKS were just inside the new dike where it turns to the
gate. There were several KILLDEER in the same area. The SHRIKE was an
adult and in the brush outside the dike near the turn.

The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE flew in to the new (frozen) pond outside
the boardwalk as we finished the walk.

We did fins a couple of mixed flocks of both KINGLETS, BROWN CREEPERS,
BUSHTITS, BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE, and DOWNEY WOODPECKER.

For the day we had 41 species with the MEADOWLARKS being new for the year.
We now have 147 species for the year.

Mammals seen were a COYOTE and a CALIFORNIA SEA LION near the Nisqually
overlook.

Until next week when I hope it is warmer...
