Subject: [Tweeters] RFI killing barred owls to save spotted owls in Cle

An article about this in today's Oregonian can be found online at:

Killing Barred Owls is only part of the issue. As Bob Sallinger of Portland
Audubon says in the above article, "I think to kill barred owls without
having a real plan in place to recover our forests is obscene."

Barred Owls appear to have made it here on their own. We can shoot all the
Barred Owls we want, but that won't change the fact that Spotted Owls breed
every other year, while Barred Owls breed every year, and Barred Owls are
aggressive.

As Wayne points out about the restoration of habitat being the key for
Kirtland's Warbler long term success, the long term solution for saving the
Spotted Owl is habitat, habitat, habitat.
