I have a male Yellow-shafted coming occasionally to my suet!? He is much more shy than my usual Flickers.? I don't know how common Y-S are here on the west side, but when I lived in Bend, OR there were the occasional Y-S, and it was pretty common to get intergrades?with orange-shafting.

-Great feeder birding with this cold snap. ?Golden-crowneds and Fox sparrows out in the open under the feeders!

I have a Yellow-Shafted Flicker coming to my suet. According to my Sibley guide, Its head, however is more like a Red-Shafted female. It has more gray than brown, with a gray face and brown crown, and no red nape. Has anyone else seen anything like this? Are such crosses common?
