Well, you know, I try to keep business separate from pleasure, but sometimes they merge! Three new guides are now available that cover areas that I am frequently asked about: A Japan guide has long been out of print and goes for extortionate amounts of money
on the net. Now there is a new book: Field Guide to the Birds of East Asia by Brazil, which covers Japan, Korea, Taiwan and parts of
China and Russia. Apart from countries mentioned,it would be very good for people interested in Eurasian extra-limitals occurring in Alaska and and indeed our West Coast, somewhat for which people used to use the old Pough guide.

Another really specialised guide for Alaska is: Beached Birds: A Coasst Field Guide to Alaska, by our good friend Julia Parrish. This has just been published and is relatively expensive. However apart from its use by people on beach surveys, there is much good info here on ID characteristics of birds we sometimes see in our area.Includes wing and foot keys.

Lastly the best Borneo bird guide has also been long out of print, and again reaches extortionate prices on the net. Now there is: Birds of Borneo (Brunei, Sabah,Sarawak and Kalimantan) by Susan Meyers, well illustrated, that fills that niche.DH
